BREAKING: Celebration Turns to Chaos as Mass Shooting Kills Two in Shockoe Bottom

What began as a night of celebration ended in heartbreak when more than 50 gunshots rang out in Shockoe Bottom, leaving two people dead and seven others injured in the early hours of the morning.

Authorities have identified the victims as Genesis Jones, 23, and Dominic Jackson, 42. Both were described as innocent bystanders caught in the chaos of a street altercation that escalated into deadly violence around 2:45 a.m. in the heart of Richmond.

Genesis had been out with her family celebrating her brotherโ€™s birthday when the gunfire erupted, transforming one of the cityโ€™s most historic and lively entertainment districts into a scene of panic and devastation within seconds. Dominic Jackson, remembered as a devoted father, also lost his life in the barrage of bullets.

According to police, multiple shooters may have been involved. Investigators have already recovered two firearms and are working tirelessly to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the tragedy. Surveillance footage and witness accounts are expected to play a critical role in identifying those responsible.

Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards addressed the community with a direct plea: โ€œMy message is leave your guns at home.โ€ His remarks underscored growing concerns about firearms in crowded public spaces and the devastating consequences when disputes turn violent.

As of now, no arrests have been announced, and the suspects remain at large. Authorities are urging anyone who was in the area or who may have captured cellphone or security footage to come forward.
