Los Angeles, CA — A routine Thursday afternoon turned into a scene of devastation in Westwood after a car crashed into a grocery store, killing three people and injuring six others, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The deadly incident occurred at approximately 12:11 p.m. on February 5, 2025, at the intersection of Westwood Boulevard and Rochester Avenue.
Authorities said a woman in her 70s was driving a sedan when she first struck a bicyclist, then continued down the roadway before slamming into the front of a 99 Ranch Market grocery store. The vehicle plowed into the bakery area, where several people were inside at the time. Multiple individuals were struck directly by the car during the crash, leading to catastrophic consequences.
Three people inside the bakery were killed: a 42-year-old woman, a 55-year-old man, and a 30-year-old man. Store officials confirmed that two of the victims were employees, while the third was a customer. Their deaths have deeply shaken both coworkers and shoppers who witnessed the aftermath.
In addition to the fatalities, six people were injured. Four victims were transported to local hospitals, including two men, both age 35, listed in critical condition, and two men, ages 37 and 38, in fair condition. The bicyclist who was initially struck and the driver of the vehicle both declined medical treatment at the scene.
Police stated the crash does not appear to be intentional. Investigators are examining whether a medical emergency may have caused the driver to lose control, though no official cause has been determined at this time.
