In a devastating turn of events, Gregory Anthony Zecca, the 39-year-old stepson of reality TV star Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman, has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of his 13-year-old son, Anthony, in Florida. Authorities in Collier County confirmed the arrest Tuesday, charging Zecca with aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm and using a firearm while under the influence — charges that could carry a possible life sentence.
The tragedy dates back to July 19, 2025, when Anthony was shot and killed at an apartment in Naples, Florida, in what has been described as a catastrophic accident. Investigators allege that Zecca had consumed alcohol and marijuana and was handling a firearm in front of his son while watching a UFC fight with him. At one point, Zecca was reportedly practicing drawing and dry-firing the weapon. Although the gun had initially been made safe by removing the magazine and clearing the chamber, authorities say the magazine was later reinserted and a single round discharged, fatally striking Anthony.
Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures, but the boy was later pronounced dead, leaving family and friends shattered. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office conducted a thorough investigation, which included witness interviews, forensic testing, and search warrants, before presenting evidence that led to Zecca’s arrest. Sheriff Kevin Rambosk described the incident as a “heartbreaking and preventable tragedy.”
Zecca, who previously worked alongside Chapman in bounty hunting activities, was also placed on a psychiatric hold after the incident due to concerns for his mental health. In statements issued after the shooting, Dog and his wife, Francie Chapman, described the loss of Anthony as “an incomprehensible, tragic accident” and asked for privacy as the family continues to grieve.
