Tragic Loss in Oswego: Ashley Stewart Found Dead in Her Home, Suspect in Custody

Oswego, Ill. — The Oswego community is reeling after the shocking death of Ashley Stewart, 34, who was found deceased inside her home on Valentine Way Wednesday afternoon. Authorities responded to an urgent call around 1:10 p.m. after Stewart’s husband reported seeing disturbing footage from the family’s home security system showing a man—believed to be her ex-husband—chasing her into the garage.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Stewart dead inside the residence. Preliminary findings indicate that she was pursued and attacked in the garage. Family members confirmed her identity, and loved ones are grappling with the sudden and senseless nature of the tragedy.

Witnesses reported seeing a man fleeing south across Wolfs Crossing Road, prompting a large-scale search. Police deployed canine units, aerial drones, and coordinated with the Aurora Police Department to locate a vehicle matching the suspect’s description. At approximately 1:37 p.m., law enforcement intercepted the vehicle on Harvey Road near Hathaway Lane. The driver, later confirmed as Ryan Dodd, Stewart’s ex-husband, was taken into custody without incident.
