Holmes County Mourns: In Loving Memory of Kyn “Mari” Brooks


HOLMES COUNTY, Miss. — The Holmes County community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Kyn Brooks, affectionately known as “Mari” to family and friends, who was tragically fatally shot on January 30, 2026. Her sudden passing has left a deep and painful void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

According to Bailey Martin, spokesperson for the Mississippi Bureau of Public Safety (MDPS), troopers with the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a vehicle incident on U.S. Highway 51 near State Park Road earlier that morning. Upon arrival, officers discovered Brooks deceased in the driver’s seat with apparent gunshot wounds. Another passenger in the vehicle was unharmed, authorities confirmed.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) has assumed responsibility for the case. Investigators are actively working to uncover the circumstances surrounding this fatal shooting, though additional details have not yet been released due to the ongoing investigation.
