The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has arrested and charged Rashawn Williams, 21, of Warner Robins, following a shooting that left a police officer and a civilian injured during a domestic call on Thursday morning. Williams is facing aggravated assault on a peace officer and aggravated assault charges, according to authorities.
The incident occurred early Thursday when officers responded to a domestic call. Upon arrival, shots were fired, injuring both a police officer and a 31-year-old female caller. Emergency crews quickly secured the scene and provided immediate medical assistance. Emory Hospital personnel treated the injured parties at the location, stabilizing their conditions before transport.
The GBI, along with SWAT teams, were called to the scene shortly after 9:07 a.m. to assist in securing the area and apprehending the suspect. Authorities reported that Williams was taken into custody without further incident. The investigation remains active as law enforcement continues to gather evidence surrounding the events leading up to the shooting.
Community members expressed shock at the violent encounter, highlighting concerns about safety and the dangers law enforcement officers face during domestic calls. Officials emphasized that such incidents are rare but serve as a reminder of the risks inherent in responding to emergencies involving potential armed suspects.
Authorities have not released additional details about the condition of the injured officer and civilian but confirmed both were receiving treatment and their injuries were serious but stable. GBI investigators are coordinating with local police to ensure a thorough review of the case and to determine the full circumstances of the shooting.
