Steven Whitehead Released on Bond in Pinson Bonfire Shooting Case

PINSON, Alabama — The Pinson community continues to grapple with the aftermath of a deadly shooting that left 18-year-old Kimber Mills dead and three others injured during a bonfire gathering in October 2025. The man accused of carrying out the shooting, 27-year-old Steven Whitehead, has been released from the Jefferson County Jail after posting $330,000 bond on Thursday.

According to court records, Whitehead’s release comes with strict conditions. He is required to wear an electronic monitoring device and comply with additional bond restrictions while awaiting further court proceedings. Whitehead faces charges of murder in connection with Mills’ death, as well as three counts of attempted murder for injuries sustained by three other individuals, including another teenager. Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the surviving victims.

The incident occurred at a bonfire party along Highway 75 North near Clay-Palmerdale Road, an area crowded at the time. Law enforcement described the scene as chaotic, with multiple people fleeing and several victims sustaining gunshot wounds. Mills, a senior at Cleveland High School, was killed in the attack, sending shockwaves throughout the community. In the weeks following, residents held vigils and called for justice, highlighting the deep grief and concern over violence affecting local youth.

Investigators emphasize that the case remains active, and additional charges could still be filed as authorities continue to examine evidence and witness accounts. The ongoing investigation underscores the seriousness of the incident and the broader community effort to ensure accountability.

While Whitehead is now out on bond, the Pinson community remains united in remembrance of Kimber Mills and in support of the injured victims. The tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the lasting impact of violence on families and neighborhoods.
