Morning Dispute Turns Deadly: Neighbor Charged with Murder in Quiet Ahoskie Neighborhood

A normally quiet stretch of West Rogers Street in Ahoskie was shattered by violence Wednesday morning, leaving one man dead and another facing a murder charge. Just after 8:20 a.m., police responded to reports of a shooting and discovered 48-year-old Corey Lamont Brown unresponsive on the pavement, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. The loss has sent shockwaves through a close-knit neighborhood struggling to understand how an ordinary morning turned tragic.

Authorities say Brown had been involved in a disagreement moments earlier with his neighbor, 65-year-old Leandrew Vinson. When officers arrived, Vinson was still at the scene. He did not attempt to flee or resist and was taken into custody without incident. Investigators are now working to determine what sparked the dispute and how it escalated so quickly into deadly violence.

Vinson has since been charged with first-degree murder and is being held at the Hertford County Detention Center without bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Friday. As the legal process unfolds, many questions remain unanswered, leaving both families and the broader community searching for clarity and closure.
