Just after 8:20 a.m., police responded to reports of a shooting and discovered 48-year-old Corey Lamont Brown unresponsive on the pavement, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. The loss has sent shockwaves through a close-knit neighborhood struggling to understand how an ordinary morning turned tragic.

Authorities say Brown had been involved in a disagreement moments earlier with his neighbor, 65-year-old Leandrew Vinson. When officers arrived, Vinson was still at the scene.
