From Rodeo Glory to Jail Cell: Pro Steer Wrestler Faces 15 Felony Rape Charges

A once-celebrated rodeo athlete is now at the center of a deeply disturbing criminal case that has shocked both the sports world and the local community. Connor McKell, a 27-year-old professional steer wrestler, is currently being held in Utah County Jail facing 15 counts of first-degree felony object rape, along with additional charges of aggravated assault and unlawful detention, all classified as domestic violence-related offenses.

According to investigators, the case came to light after a woman arrived at a hospital with visible injuries and reported that what began as a consensual encounter allegedly turned violent. She told authorities that McKell ignored her repeated pleas to stop and used force, leaving her injured and fearful. Fearing for her safety, she reportedly texted friends for help before fleeing the residence.

A sexual assault nurse examiner later documented injuries that investigators say were consistent with the womanโ€™s account. Friends who saw her shortly after the incident also reported observing visible marks on her neck, further supporting the allegations. Based on the evidence gathered, police obtained a search warrant and arrested McKell at his home in Springville on January 18.
