Tragedy in the Storm: Victims Identified in Deadly Bangor Private Jet Crash

New details are emerging following a devastating private jet crash in Bangor, Maine, that claimed the lives of six people and has shaken communities across the country. Authorities have now identified three of the victims as investigators continue working through harsh winter conditions to determine what caused the fatal incident.

The crash occurred around 7:45 p.m. Sunday, shortly after takeoff from Bangor International Airport, as Winter Storm Fern swept through the Northeast with heavy snowfall, strong winds, and dangerously low visibility. The aircraft, a Bombardier Challenger 600, flipped upside down upon impact, crashed, and erupted into flames. All six people on board were killed. Officials later corrected earlier reports that had incorrectly stated seven fatalities.

The jet was registered to an LLC connected to the Houston-based personal injury law firm Arnold & Itkin. One of the victims has been confirmed as Tara Arnold, the wife of firm co-founder Kurt Arnold. Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Leslie Briones, a close friend and former employee of the firm, described Tara as a โ€œphenomenal personโ€ with a deep commitment to service, speaking emotionally at a news conference.

A second victim was identified as Shawna Collins, a well-known Houston-area event planner. Her daughter shared that she had spoken with her mother shortly before the flight and that Shawna was excited about an upcoming business trip to Europe. The aircraftโ€™s operator was identified by a pilot friend as Jacob Hosmer, though officials have not yet formally released all names.

Airport officials confirmed the runway was snow-covered but open, with de-icing operations active and other flights taking off safely. A haunting radio transmission โ€” โ€œLet there be lightโ€ โ€” was reportedly heard just before the crash, though its meaning remains unclear.
