Tracy, a growing city in San Joaquin County, faces ongoing challenges in traffic safety, especially as population growth and congestion increase. Major highways like Interstate 5 and Interstate 205 are often hotspots for accidents due to heavy traffic and high-speed lanes.
In 2024, Tracy saw a troubling rise in traffic fatalities, with six deaths compared to just two in 2023. This uptick in fatalities underscores the importance of safety measures and enforcement efforts. Data from the Transportation Injury Mapping System revealed that 208 crashes in the region resulted in either injuries or fatalities last year. The Tracy Police Department has ramped up efforts to curb these numbers, including the installation of red-light cameras and expanding traffic enforcement units, in line with the Vision Zero goal to eliminate traffic-related deaths.
