Tragic Rahway House Fire Claims the Life of 57-Year-Old Tracey Buchanan

A devastating house fire in Rahway, New Jersey, has left the community in shock after it claimed the life of 57-year-old Tracey Buchanan. The three-alarm blaze tore through the two-story home located in the 1500 block of High Street on January 20, 2026, engulfing both floors and spreading to the attic.

The fire was reported at approximately 10:20 a.m., and firefighters rushed to the scene. Despite their swift response, the intensity of the flames quickly escalated, prompting mutual aid from neighboring departments, including those from Linden, Roselle, Clark, Cranford, Elizabeth, Scotch Plains, and Union. The fire’s rapid spread made it difficult for firefighters to initially gain control, and deteriorating conditions led to temporary evacuations of personnel.

Tragically, despite the valiant efforts of emergency responders, Tracey Buchanan was found dead inside the home. Police were able to prevent another resident from re-entering the burning building, but the damage had already been done. Rahway Police confirmed her death, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Rahway Mayor Raymond A. Giacobbe extended his condolences, praising the courage and dedication of the first responders who worked tirelessly under perilous conditions. In the wake of the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Traceyโ€™s family, raising over $33,000 of its $55,000 goal as of Friday.
