A Late-Night Hookup Turns Into Nightmare: Uber Driver Robbed at Gunpoint in Kenwood

late-night chat on a dating app quickly spiraled into a terrifying ordeal for a 30-year-old Uber driver from Cicero. Around 1 a.m. on July 19, 2025, while waiting for his next ride, the driver was convinced to meet up with someone in a quiet alley on South Drexel Boulevard in Kenwood. What he thought would be just another casual hookup turned into an armed robbery that would haunt him for days.

Police say 18-year-old Jroy Ramey and an accomplice met the driver in the alley and walked him to a secluded spot. There, Ramey brandished a bat-like object and demanded the driver’s phone, while the second suspect pressed a gun against his back and leg, threatening to shoot if he didnโ€™t unlock it with his face. The two robbers took the driver’s phone, Apple Watch, and ordered him to keep his head down before fleeing the scene.

But the nightmare didnโ€™t end there. Over the next few days, someone used the stolen phone to rack up at least $1,856 in unauthorized charges on the driverโ€™s bank accounts. Even more shockingly, the robbers ordered Uber Eats to Rameyโ€™s own house using the phone.
