Remembering Luther “Luke” Pierce Sherman: A Life of Adventure, Family, and Passion

Luther “Luke” Pierce Sherman, age 38, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on January 13, 2026, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. Born on December 3, 1987, in Prince George’s County, Maryland, Luke’s life was one filled with adventure, passion, and an unwavering love for his family.

Luke’s childhood was marked by a dynamic start, as his mother served in the United States Navy. The family lived in San Diego, California, before returning to Lamar, Missouri, where Luke attended school and later graduated from high school in Springfield, Missouri. In 2006, the family made Joplin their home, and that’s where Luke’s roots remained until his passing.

Luke’s career took him across the country as he worked on large projects, including building water tanks. His love for the outdoors led him to a position in the City of Joplin’s Parks and Recreation Department, and later as a manager at Downstream Golf Course in Quapaw, Oklahoma. He brought his passion for landscaping and groundskeeping to every role he held.

An avid outdoorsman, Luke’s hobbies reflected his deep love for nature and adventure. Whether riding dirt bikes, mountain biking, fishing, or camping, he was always eager to spend time outside. His enthusiasm for mechanics and vehicles was matched only by his love for music and travel, making him a well-rounded individual who left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Above all, Luke’s greatest love was his daughter, Paislee. His family meant the world to him, and his legacy will live on through the memories of his selflessness, knowledge, and joy he brought to the world.
