Grass Valley Crash Sends Five to Hospital After Violent Multi-Vehicle Collision

Grass Valley, CA — A serious multi-vehicle crash left five people injured Tuesday afternoon after a violent collision at the intersection of Dog Bar Road and Rattlesnake Road, authorities confirmed. The accident occurred around 4 p.m. on December 9, 2025, drawing a large emergency response and temporarily disrupting traffic in the area.

According to the Nevada County Consolidated Fire District, three vehicles were involved in the crash, with one vehicle overturning as a result of the impact. The force of the collision caused significant damage at the busy intersection, which is known for heavy traffic and challenging driving conditions during peak hours.

Emergency crews from the California Highway Patrol, NCC Fire, and Sierra Nevada Ambulance responded swiftly to the scene. First responders assessed all parties involved and provided immediate medical care before transporting five individuals to nearby hospitals. Authorities reported that the victims sustained minor to moderate injuries and were treated for non-life-threatening conditions.

At this time, officials have not released further details regarding the cause of the crash, and the identities of those injured have not been disclosed. The California Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation to determine the factors that led to the collision and whether speed, road conditions, or other contributing elements played a role.

While Grass Valley has seen notable improvements in traffic safety in recent years, incidents like this serve as a reminder that serious crashes can still occur. Between 2019 and 2022, the number of people injured or killed in traffic collisions in the area dropped significantly—from 26 victims in 2019 to just four in 2022. Multi-vehicle crashes also declined during that period, reflecting progress in local safety efforts.
