Nurse Who Cared for Others Ends Her Own Family’s Lives in Tragic Murder-Suicide

Waverly, TN – A community is left in shock after a nurse practitioner, trusted with the lives of others, allegedly took the lives of her two young children and their elderly grandmother in a heartbreaking murder-suicide on January 2. Heather Thompson, 32, is said to have shot and killed her 4-year-old son, Arius, her 13-year-old son, Isaiah, and their 88-year-old grandmother, Evelyn Johnson, before turning the gun on herself.

Thompson’s home on East Little Richland Road had no history of violence, and no mental health crises had been reported prior to the tragedy. There were no signs of the devastation to come, and the family’s quiet life gave no indication of the horror that was about to unfold. When authorities arrived for a welfare check, they found all four victims dead from gunshot wounds.

Jeremiah Thompson, Heather’s estranged husband, was living in Albuquerque, New Mexico, when he received the devastating news. At first, he thought his children had simply moved, but the brutal truth soon hit him like a ton of bricks. Arius, a playful 4-year-old who loved his tricycle, and Isaiah, a 13-year-old with a passion for sports and music, were both taken from the world in their sleep.

This tragedy has shaken the entire Humphreys County community to its core. Sheriff Chris Davis expressed the devastation felt by all, calling it a tragedy unlike any other. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is now working tirelessly to uncover why a woman who spent her days healing others would choose to take the lives of her own flesh and blood. The loss of these innocent children has left an unfillable void in the lives of those who loved them. They deserved to grow up,
