In a devastating turn of events, Tyler Underwood, a 28-year-old man, lost his life after being involved in a catastrophic car accident on Saturday, January 20, 2026, while simply sitting in a stopped vehicle at a red light. Underwood was a passenger in a car driven by 25-year-old Riesen Kimmerly, who was waiting at the intersection of West Ridge and Elmgrove Road in Greece, New York. The vehicle was stationary when, at 1 p.m., 42-year-old Craig Cavallaroโ€™s car slammed into them from behind with tremendous force.

The impact was so severe that Cavallaro was killed instantly, and Underwood, who had been minding his own business as a passenger, was critically injured. He was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he spent several days fighting for his life, only to tragically pass away on Thursday. Kimmerly, the driver of the stopped vehicle, was also seriously injured but remains hospitalized, recovering from the crash.

The accident, which unfolded on a routine stretch of road, left many in disbelief. Thousands of drivers pass through the intersection daily, unaware of the risk lurking at every stoplight. Emergency crews worked for hours to extricate those trapped in the wreckage, while traffic in the area came to a standstill.

As authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including roadway conditions, witness statements, and potential driver factors, the community mourns the loss of two lives. Tylerโ€™s friends and family remember him for his caring nature, while thoughts and prayers continue for Riesen Kimmerlyโ€™s recovery.
