A Heartbreaking Loss: 6-Year-Old Hudson Killed in Tragic Hit-and-Run in Pacific Beach

Some cases just hit differently. This one particularly tugs at the heartstrings. I recently received an email from the father of 6-year-old Hudson, whose life was tragically cut short in a horrific hit-and-run incident on Saturday, January 20, 2026.

Hudson, a bright and energetic first-grader, was riding his bicycle through a residential alley in San Diegoโ€™s Pacific Beach when disaster struck. Around 3:45 p.m., he was struck by a vehicle. Witnesses say the driver initially stopped for a few seconds but then accelerated through the alley, running over Hudson a second time as she attempted to flee the scene. Hudsonโ€™s parents, who were nearby, rushed to their sonโ€™s side before he was transported to a hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Hudson sadly succumbed to his injuries.

The driver, 32-year-old Tiffany Sanchez, fled the scene, but investigators were later able to locate her vehicle in National City. Sanchez was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run causing death or injury, vehicular manslaughter, and driving without a license. Authorities have confirmed that alcohol was not a factor, though the investigation is ongoing.

In the aftermath of this devastating event, the community has rallied to honor Hudson’s memory. A memorial of flowers, candles, and heartfelt messages now adorns the alley where the tragedy occurred. Hudsonโ€™s loved ones remember him as a curious, energetic child who loved BMX biking, swimming, and building with Legos. McKinley Elementary School, where Hudson attended, has provided grief counselors to help students and staff cope.

This heartbreaking incident has sparked renewed calls for improved traffic safety in the area, as speeding and reckless driving remain serious concerns. Hudsonโ€™s tragic death has left a hole in the hearts of everyone who knew him, and his story serves as a painful reminder of the devastating impact of reckless driving.
