Serious Motorcycle Crash on SR-87 in San Jose Leaves Rider with Major Injuries


San Jose, CA — A Friday afternoon commute turned dangerous when a motorcycle crash on State Route 87 left at least one person with major injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol. The collision occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m. on northbound SR-87, just north of the Curtner Avenue on-ramp, an area known for heavy traffic during peak hours.

CHP logs indicate that the crash involved a sports motorcycle and a gray sedan. San Jose Fire Department crews responded quickly and found both vehicles disabled at the scene. Emergency responders confirmed that at least one individual sustained serious injuries, though the person’s identity and current condition have not yet been released.

Following the collision, lanes No. 1 and No. 2 on northbound SR-87 were blocked, causing traffic delays as first responders worked to treat the injured and clear the roadway. California Highway Patrol officers remained on scene to conduct an investigation and gather evidence to determine how the crash occurred.

Motorcyclists remain among the most vulnerable users on California roadways, and San Jose continues to see a high number of injury-related crashes. According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, the city recorded 3,294 fatal and injury victims in traffic collisions, ranking it 11th out of 15 comparable jurisdictions statewide. Motorcycle crashes alone accounted for 69 injured or killed victims, highlighting the elevated risk riders face.
