A Dallas family is grieving and demanding answers after 26-year-old Johnathan Rodriguez was killed in a devastating hit-and-run crash just hours after celebrating his birthday. Now, loved ones are offering a $10,000 reward in hopes of identifying the driver responsible and bringing justice to a life cut tragically short.
The fatal incident occurred around 3 a.m. Sunday in the 4000 block of West Davis Street, near North Westmoreland Drive. According to Dallas police, Rodriguez had been dropped off by friends after birthday celebrations and was standing in a median when a dark-colored SUV struck him from behind. Surveillance footage captured the horrifying moment as the vehicle hit Rodriguez and then fled the scene without stopping.
Witnesses rushed to help and immediately called 911. They provided officers with a critical detail: the SUV appeared to have damage to its back left taillight, information investigators believe could be key to solving the case.
Rodriguez suffered severe head trauma and was rushed to Methodist Hospital, where he remained in critical condition with minimal brain activity. After days of heartbreak and uncertainty, his family confirmed he was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon.
